Advertising messages must be able to connect with its target audience. Community standards come into play as you do not want to offend and turn off those you are trying to reach by pushing their sensitivities. In America, our advertising is pretty tame compared to our European counterparts. In this commercial, the subject drinks the product and goes on a ‘thug spree’. I’ll admit, it’s shocking value of what’s might be next is quite entertaining. Full lack of inhibition gives it a near dream state. With that said, this commercial would never fly here. And directly connecting your product with bad behavior is rarely an accepted or successful tract. So why would it work here? Target audience. Young adults and early twenty-somethings. and they imagine playing out their fantasies. They think it’s a cool commercial and therefore a cool product. Done deal.
